Dietary Assessment Research Group
(Grupo de Pesquisa de Avaliação do Consumo Alimentar – GAC)
Diet is a major determinant of health status of individuals, and its role in health/disease processes, as a risk or protection factor, has been described since ancient times. Our group aims to develop techniques and methods for dietary assessment of individuals and population groups, improving the collection of food intake information, data processing, development, validation and reproducibility of instruments, and to investigate their relationship with morbidities, biomarkers and environment.
Consisting of professors, undergraduate and graduate students, and collaborating researchers from the School of Public Health at the University of São Paulo and other educational and research institutions, the group is coordinated by Professor Assoc Regina Mara Fisberg.
Since 2003, GAC has coordinated the nutrition area of the Health Survey project in the city of São Paulo (ISA-Capital). It is a population-based health survey from the city of São Paulo, which aims to evaluate health conditions and use of health services in a representative sample of individuals living in the city of São Paulo (i.e., adolescents, adults and older adults).
